How to Use the Split Cells Function in Excel
Splitting cells in Excel allows users to split data into multiple rows or columns. The procedure is fairly simple and fast. However, you must first select the cell or cells you want to split. In addition, you must also select the delimiter. A delimiter is a special character, like a comma, space or tab.
You can use text functions to split cells in Excel. For example, you can use the MID function to extract the specified number of characters from a string of text. If you need to combine the data of several cells, you can use the Merge & Center titles function to create a single, larger cell for the title.
You can also use the Text to Columns Wizard to split your data into multiple columns. You can select either a standard or user-defined delimiter. Once you've selected your delimiter, click Next. Afterwards, you'll be able to see a preview of the data that's being split.
To use the Split Cells function in Excel, you must select a cell. Alternatively, you can split an entire row. Selecting an entire row requires clicking on the column headers in the upper left hand corner.
You can then insert the number of rows and columns you'd like to add. Finally, click Finish. You can choose whether to leave the split as a table or display it as a chart.
You can also split your cells vertically. This is especially useful if you need to display the data in multiple columns.
